That’s what a winner’s smile looks like.

It was a fun and fast night tonight, and regardless of the rain a really good group of very dedicated riders made it out to give it everything they had. I want to say thank you to everyone who braved the weather to come race. RP took first place, Kevin in second, and Martin in third. More pictures later and a quick edit of pre-race footage since everyone was too busy to film the actual race. Thanks again to everyone, and to the sponsors for making this race possible

Here’s a breakdown of who will get what at the race tomorrow, so that you know what you’ll be fightin’ for!

The raffle prizes are working a little differently this year, there will be a track and a trick raffle set up, so you’ll get the choice to put your ticket in either box. When the winners of those two main raffles are named, all the raffle tickets will be pooled together and the remaining prizes will be raffled off until everything’s gone. Here’s the two main raffle prizes:

– Drink powder mix by amazing grass as well. This is hardy stuff that’ll keep you goin’ all day.

Drink:
– Lots of bottles of water, either take it straight or mix it with the amazing grass powders for an extra kick for your runs.

Way’ta save the best for last. A few days ago I got a package quite unexpectedly from burro containing a really, REALLY cool messenger bag. As you can see below, it’s totally SF themed, with the Giants logo on the flap and orange and black all around. A very classy and well made contribution to the race.

Yesterday I got word that the LDG package had arrived and was waiting for me at the South San Francisco post office to be picked up. Who knew picking up packages was such serious business. Me and my wife got there a half hour early and they wouldn’t even let us in, so we waited outside the gate and between then and when we actually got let in a huge line of cars had formed behind us to get their packages. Crazy stuff. Well it was worth it because I got a beautiful package of goods from LDG, all of their products are such works of art by themselves. Expect a write up of some of their parts, as well as the fork they sent me over at Killit later on.

I also headed over to the Marina today to pay Brandon at Amazing Grass a visit. And am extremely thankful for what he contributed to the race. About six boxes of top quality vegan and gluten free energy bars as well as a fat stack of drink powder mix (which I tried some of today, and it honestly did give me a ton of energy getting back to the excelsior).

And last but not least I headed over to Mission Bikes on the way home to pick up the spoke cards. Which are dope. There is a limited number, so like I said before, if you want one make SURE you stick around for the awards at the end of the night.

Still bummed out Dodici couldn’t get us their stuff on time for the race but like I said, I’ll be working closely with the winner of this years race all throughout their frame process and will be hand delivering their wheelset to them once the rims come in.

Expect a full write up of who gets what at the race tomorrow in an hour or so, until then I hope you’re all getting in last minute practice runs before tomorrow!

Mission Bikes again

So the spoke cards are done and I’ll be picking them up tomorrow. In other news, shipments from both Burro and LDG have arrived since the last post, so tomorrow I’ll be showing you what the dudes sent over as well as giving an update on exactly what will be handed out to whom at the race. Sadly Dodici had an unexpected delay in their rim shipment so the wheelset won’t be there for the race, but since I’ll be working with the winner to get them their custom frame, the lucky sir or madam will be hooked up with the wheels after race day. I’ll also be swinging by Amazing grass tomorrow to say what’s up to Brandon and grab some energy filled snacks for the race. And just so you know, there will be a cooler full of free water bottles for racers too, so even if you don’t remember to bring some, there’ll be plenty to keep you hydrated.

A few days ago I was contacted by Travis, who, working with Chapter Three, put me in contact with Jefferson over at Mission Bicycles offering to make me some spoke cards for the race this weekend. What did I say? I said hell yeah! Below is the design I came up with for the spoke cards that will be given away at the race. Colossi

Colossi is a name that’s taken this race to the next level. A lot of you will be coming out in a couple of weeks to win the grand prize of a custom frame and believe me when I say you’ll be riding for something very worth while. I talked to Jan Kole of Colossi recently and he informed me that after the winner is crowned, they will be working closely with me to decide on their custom frame. The thing that makes this race completely unique is this grand prize. I don’t know of another race that has offered up a completely custom frame. You will have freedom with your prize, so you can decide on a track frame, pursuit track frame, road frame, trick frame, whatever you want. You also get to choose the color and size so that it fits you perfectly. After sending the specs to Jan he’ll come up with a drawing that you’ll get to check out before they start making it. Try to beat that. In addition to the frame, I also got the banged up box you see below, and you know that when you get a box like this it has to be something good. Colossi also sent a slew of sweet bars, a stem and a seatpost to win at the race. Put your game faces on everyone, this shit is gonna get real.

If you think you’ve got a chance of winning this thing, start thinking about what you’ll want your frame to be like so you can get it even faster.

If you read Killit much, you know that I read Pedal Consumption a lot, and really trust what Patrick has to say about a lot of things. He’s a nice guy and being based in Portland has some significance to me, since I grew up in Oregon. Yesterday I got a little package in the mail with the PC logo on it and opened it up to find a nice little hip pouch inside, but a well constructed one. Inside of THAT was a pile of PC stickers, something that is really nice to get for free if you’re among the few that get to stick you hands in the sticker box at the end of the night at the races this year. Thanks to Patrick for the contribution, and the support for the race on his site. It’s all very much appreciated.

Stan got me some pretty sick prizes from Soma and Pake today, including the lovely suede saddle above based on the classic rolls saddle, as well as a pair of “Ukiah” handlebars (named after myself (not really)), a cap and a shirt. A nice haul. I’m thinking that since there’s been quite a few trick related products sent as prizes there will be a trick and track raffle, and all of you will have the chance to choose which raffle you want to be put in. When I contacted Rob from HoldFast for this years race I wasn’t expecting him to pull out all the stops for this one, but that’s just what the homie did. Take a look at those straps. Those are a thing of beauty. Completely custom made just for the race, the only two pairs you’ll find in the world, plus some key chains, shirts and stickers for the kids. HoldFast is one of those companies that came up with someone extremely clever from humble beginnings and a million copycats have followed in Rob’s footsteps.
